Osun LG crisis: PDP chairmen will resume fully Monday – Adeleke’s aide

Mr Oladele Bamiji, the Deputy Spokesperson to the Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has said the Peoples Democratic Party-elected local government chairmen in the state will resume fully on Monday despite resistance at some council secretariats on Friday.

It would be recalled that some of the PDP chairmen elected on February 22, 2025, resumed at their local government secretariats on Friday.

Their resumption followed the ruling of the Federal High Court in Osogbo, dismissing the APC suit seeking clarification on the end of tenure for the 2022 chairmen elected under the All Progressives Congress.

Speaking on the development, Bamiji said, “The PDP elected chairmen will resume fully next Monday by the grace of God, and they will all be there to perform their duty for which they were elected.

“The PDP will not be obeying the law if the chairman refuses to resume work as ordered by the Federal High Court.”

He insisted the PDP chairmen remain the legally recognised administrators in the state following the Federal High Court judgment.

Bamiji said PDP chairmen in Ede North, Ede South, Ifelodun, Ila, Iwo, Boripe and a few other councils resumed on Friday.

Meanwhile, the APC-elected chairmen have rejected the PDP resumption.

Adegoke Ogunsola, speaking for the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria on the APC platform, accused the PDP chairmen of attempting a forceful takeover.

He said APC chairmen and councillors had filed an application for stay of execution of the judgment and that the process had been served on respondents and the police.

Ogunsola maintained the PDP chairmen were not parties to the dismissed suit filed by APC chairmen elected in the October 15, 2022, elections.

He argued there was no court order granting them relief and that police had been warned that enforcement actions could lead to a breakdown of law and order.
