The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has cautioned politicians across the country against politicising insecurity, warning that such actions undermine efforts to address the nation’s security challenges.
In a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Alli Ibraheem, on Monday, the monarch urged political leaders to unite in support of efforts aimed at combating banditry, kidnapping and other security threats confronting the country.
Oba Akanbi described individuals who exploit insecurity for political advantage as “political bandits,” stressing that insecurity remains a national problem that transcends political, ethnic, and religious affiliations.
According to him, no government can successfully defeat insecurity without the cooperation and support of citizens and critical stakeholders, including opposition leaders.
He expressed concern over what he described as the growing trend of politicians criticising government responses to insecurity without offering practical solutions.
The royal father also called for greater collaboration among political leaders, appealing to members of all political parties to engage constructively with the government in developing lasting solutions to the country’s security challenges.
Oba Akanbi further advocated stronger legal measures against perpetrators of violent crimes, urging lawmakers to enact legislation prescribing stiffer punishments for individuals found guilty of banditry and related offences.
