Osun APC tasks police to investigate alleged assassination attempt on Ataoja of Osogbo

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has called on the state police command to urgently investigate an alleged assassination attempt on the Ataoja of Osogboland, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji.

The party made the demand in a statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, on Sunday.

The monarch, during the adoption of Governor Ademola Adeleke for re-election by spare parts traders at Ajegunle, Osogbo, on Saturday, said that he escaped an attack by hoodlums who shot sporadically into his palace.

The APC described the allegation as grievous and said it does not portray the image of the state positively outside its borders.

The party said there is a need for a thorough investigation to bring those responsible to justice and to set the record straight in its proper perspective.

It raised questions about why the incident was not reported at the nearest police station and, if it was, why the police had kept their lips sealed on an allegation of such magnitude.

The party also asked for details of residents of the Ataoja Palace reportedly wounded during the attack, including their identities and the degrees of injuries sustained.

“Gunshot wounds cannot be treated under the table in a cosmopolitan state capital like Osogbo,” the statement noted.
