The All Progressives Congress in Osun State has dismissed allegations by national and state lawmakers of the Accord Party that it was planning to unleash mayhem on residents, describing the allegation as false and politically motivated.
osun.life reports that the lawmakers, comprising 1 senator, six House of Representatives members and 25 House of Assembly members, in a statement on Friday said they had received intelligence of alleged plans by APC leaders to cause unrest in the state.
They alleged that the APC was planning to escalate violent attacks on members of the public, particularly supporters of the Accord Party, across the state in the coming weeks.
“Very credible intelligence available to us suggests that this sinister plot includes targeted attacks on persons identified with the Accord, further destruction of billboards, vehicles and other property of prominent Accord leaders and political office holders in Osun State,” the lawmaker said.
However, APC spokesperson Kola Olabisi, in a statement, said the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and other party leaders would not engage in violence, insisting they were confident of victory in the upcoming election.
Olabisi dismissed the allegations, describing them as fabricated and politically motivated.
He accused the lawmakers of spreading falsehoods to discredit APC leaders, including the governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.
“It is either the Accord Party rumour merchants cooked stories about the imaginary attacks of their members or the discovery of a phoney spot where the APC was branding some vehicles with the Accord Party logo in order to foment crises across the state,” he said.
He urged members of the public to disregard the allegations, insisting that the APC was focused on winning the forthcoming election.
“We are not bothered about the ceaseless ranting of the Accord Party lawmakers at both the national and state levels who are jittery that their re-election is predicated on what becomes of their governorship candidate,” Olabisi added.
