The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, on Thursday held a high-level security dialogue with selected Fulani herdsmen from Ola Oluwa Local Government at his palace in Iwo, Osun State.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page, the monarch stated that while addressing the herdsmen, he acknowledged the long-standing cooperation and peaceful coexistence between Fulanis and Yorubas in Iwoland.
Oba Akanbi called for sustained synergy to prevent the infiltration of questionable strangers into the community.
The monarch charged the herdsmen to support security agencies by providing intelligence from their areas and to resist inducements from external elements recruiting residents as informants.
Responding, the Seriki Fulani of Ola Oluwa, Alhaji Abubakar Sidik, described Iwo as his ancestral home, assuring the Oluwo of the Fulani community’s commitment to securing the land.
“Iwo is my ancestral home. My great-grandparents were born here. These children you are seeing do not know any other place. Their great-grandparents were born and died on Iwo Jima,” Sidik said.
“Kabiesi, I assure you the bad ones among them will turn a new leaf. I cannot allow anyone to destroy the good name and legacy left behind by our forefathers. These children are under my watch, and they are all listening,” he added.
