Osun alumni body raises N250m endowment fund to revitalise school infrastructure

The alumni association of St. Charles Grammar School, Osogbo, Osun State, has launched a N250 million endowment fund aimed at revitalising infrastructure and improving learning facilities in the institution, as part of efforts to restore the school’s former glory and enhance the academic environment for current and future students.

This is just as the alumni association urged the governments at all levels to return the management of mission schools to their original owners to boost educational excellence, uphold discipline and moral values in the nation’s school system.

The President of the association, Peter Adekunle, addressing newsmen at the Biennial convention held in Osogbo, capital of Osun State, said: “Before the government took over, our mission schools were doing very well in terms of management and quality of education, but since they took over, the opposite is the case.”

According to him, when parents complain about issues within the school, stakeholders hurriedly address them without any delay or unnecessary bureaucratic approach. I want to urge government at all levels to return the mission schools to the original owner to boost the quality of education and discipline.”

Speaking about the endowment fund, he explained that “the establishment of SCOBA Endowment Fund (SEF) will be used to support and improve the facilities in the school, support the staff and students and above all, some of our old boys who may be in need. We set a target of N250million, and this was launched in 2024 during our convention in this great school.”

Mr Adekunle applauded the efforts of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoheed Lagbaja, saying that the alumni association will forever appreciate the E-library, two bore holes basket ball court and indoor games court built by him.

“Various projects in the school, he noted that the facilities at the school are only open to students’ use and not for political campaigns or any form of social gathering.”
