A civil society group, Dee Osun Monitors, has called on the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, to urgently restore Orolu State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group said the continued exclusion of Orolu despite a 2014 Federal High Court judgment amounts to “over a decade of injustice” against residents of Orolu and Irepodun Local Government Areas.
In a press statement issued Friday, May 29, 2026, the group Coordinator, Prince Jide Akinyooye, cited the May 28, 2014 ruling by Justice Baba O. Kuewumi of the Federal High Court, Osogbo in Suit No. FHC/OS/CS/10/2013.
“The continued existence of 26 State Constituencies in Osun State without Orolu State Constituency is illegal,” Akinyooye quoted the court as stating.
He added that the court declared Orolu “is not a new constituency but an existing one that had already been created by INEC but suppressed” and ordered INEC to conduct elections into the seat during the next general election.
The group lamented that almost 12 years after the judgment, Orolu people remain without representation.
“This denial of legislative representation for over two decades violates Section 91 of the 1999 Constitution and constitutes a grave injustice against the citizens of Orolu and Irepodun Local Government Areas,” the statement said.
Akinyooye argued that INEC’s appeal at the Court of Appeal, Akure Division, Suit No. CA/AK/110/2017, does not justify the delay.
“The fact that INEC appealed the 2014 judgment is not a license to deny the people of Orolu their rights. An appeal does not operate as a stay of execution,” he said.
“The judgment of the Federal High Court ought to have been given effect since 2014, pending the determination of the appeal,” he added.
Dee Osun Monitors warned that further inaction could trigger electoral problems.
“Continued inaction risks creating constitutional and electoral crises that can be avoided now,” Akinyooye said.
The statement demanded, “Immediately comply with the 2014 judgment of the Federal High Court, Osogbo, by restoring Orolu State Constituency.
“Take all necessary steps to conduct elections in Orolu State Constituency during the 2027 general elections; uphold the constitutional right of the people of Orolu to representation in the Osun State House of Assembly.
“The restoration of Orolu State Constituency is not a political demand. It is a matter of law, justice, and the fundamental right of citizens to representation.”
