Appeal court judgement: Akinrun stool remains vacant, Osun govt insists

The Osun State Government has insisted that the stool of Akirun of Ikirun remains vacant, warning against fomenting trouble in the town.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Olufemi Ogundun, stated this in a statement on Wednesday, following a judgment by the Court of Appeal.

Ogundun said the judgment was in line with the existing position of the Government as contained in the Executive Order, the Chieftaincy Committee Report, and the White Paper.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Akinrun Stool remains vacant, and the Court of Appeal has not ordered the installation or recognition of anybody as the Akinrun of Ikirun Land,” the statement noted.

“The government maintains its position awaiting the final decision of the Court of Appeal in the appeal filed by the Gboleru Ruling House, which has now involved the other remaining two ruling houses,” it added.

The government, therefore, warned any individual parading himself as the Akinrun of Ikirun or engaging in any acts capable of causing unrest in Ikirunland to desist, adding that anyone found disturbing the peace will be held responsible.

“The Government is committed to peace, progress and development of Ikirunland, as such assures due process, thereby urging all parties and residents of Ikirunland to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding while awaiting the final decision of the Court of Appeal, since all the ruling houses of Ikirun and other parties have already submitted to the Court of Appeal,” the statement concluded.
