The Osun State Police Command on Saturday, dismissed reports claiming there was an assassination attempt on Adebayo Adeleke, son of Governor Ademola Adeleke, describing the claims as false and misleading.
It would be recalled that the state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi in a statement said Adeleke’s son popularly known as B-RED was targeted for assassination allegedly by supporters of the All Progressives Congress.
But the police through its Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, clarified that the widely circulated report was unverified and capable of causing unnecessary panic among residents.
Ojelabi explained that B-Red had only reported being followed by unidentified individuals on motorcycles while driving through the Olaiya–Alekuwodo axis.
According to the police, the singer stated that the individuals trailed his vehicle, pointed at him, and appeared to recognise him as the governor’s son.
He also reported that a white Toyota Venza without a registration number joined in following him.
Despite the situation, B-Red and his associates were able to leave the area safely and make their way to the Government House in Oke-Fia without any confrontation.
“The complainant confirmed that he was neither attacked nor physically harmed,” the police said.
The command added that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further discreet investigation, while reiterating that there was no assassination attempt as claimed.
