A former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Osun State, Prince Adebayo Adeleke, has accused the state government of extorting students in the state’s tertiary institutions.
Adeleke alleged that the state government gets 90 per cent of its Internally Generated Revenue from school fees payments.
He made the comments while featuring on a private TV station programme in Osogbo, the state capital.
The All Progressives Congress chieftain also said the Governor Ademola Adeleke-led administration has failed woefully in the Agricultural sector.
According to him, “The education system is so bad. You say you are generating IGR, that means you are extorting the students. 90 per cent of the IGR generated in Osun State is from the payment of school fees.
“I was addressing some farmers two days ago and the issue of tractors came up and they told me categorically that they don’t even have access to the 31 tractors out of the 114 paid for. Governor Adeleke claimed that they spent ₦2 billion on seedlings but these farmers said it is not true.
“I, as a citizen of Osun, know that Governor Adeleke lied when he said he purchased 114 tractors. His Commissioner for Information went on a radio programme and said it was 71. After that, the chairman of SUBEB went to another radio programme and said it was 31.”
