Osun guber: Ex-OAU students rally support for ex-speaker’s ambition

Former students of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, have expressed total support for the gubernatorial ambition of the former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Najeem Salaam.

Salaam is the governorship flag bearer of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

The former students, who were classmates of Salaam at the Department of Political Science of OAU (89/93 set), declared that Salaam is the best candidate for the seat.

In a statement signed on Friday by the Chairman of the OAU ’93 Political Science Alumni Association, Mr. Lanre Anjolaiya, the group stated that Salaam can turn things around positively for the people of Osun State if voted into power and, therefore, deserves to be given the mandate to serve as the next governor of the state.

In his words, Anjolaiya, who is also the Chairman of Afenifere (Lagos State Chapter), declared: “Salaam had always exhibited sterling leadership traits right from our days on campus in Ife. “He was studious, amiable, debonair, humane, peaceful, God-fearing, and possessed a high sense of maturity.

“More importantly, Salaam is humility personified. Even at a relatively young age, he left no one in doubt that he was destined for greatness in life.

“Little wonder he was conferred with the Chieftaincy title of Iwaloye of Ejigbo land and the Asiwaju Adinni of the town’s Central Mosque.”

Anjolaiya added that it is on record that Salaam has never disappointed the people of Osun State in any capacity in which he has served them, including as Speaker of the state’s House of Assembly for eight years.

“He led the legislative role of the state with integrity and decorum and will certainly bring outstanding development to governance and the people of Osun State,” he stressed.
