Flood ravages Ilesa spare parts market as traders seek Adeleke’s help

Traders at Isida, a popular automobile market in Ilesa, have appealed to the Osun State government to come to their aid over the perennial flooding in the area.

The traders in a video posted by a media aide to Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Owa Adesuyi Haastrup, Isaac Haastrup, said they lost some of their goods following a midnight downpour on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, a resident, Tunji Ojo who spoke in the video, attributed the cause of the loss to the narrow waterways in the area.

Ojo said the waterways are too narrow and can no longer carry the volume of water coming from different areas.

He also bemoaned some traders’ attitude to cleanliness, noting that while some of the traders do dump refuse inside the waterways, others have blocked it completely to erect structures.

He said, “I want to appeal to the state government and the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland to assist us. The water coming from Ilemodu, Ikisin and Okeeasa, passes through Isida and the waterways cannot contain the quantity of water again.

“We have lost a lot of our goods to the water and we are appealing for help.”
