The Osun State Police Command said it has arrested four suspects following renewed hostilities between residents of Ilobu and Erin-Osun communities over boundary demarcation.
A statement on Thursday by the Command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, said operatives had successfully quelled tensions between the communities.
Ojelabi, however, condemned the
alleged attack on operatives who responded to a distress call as the residents were about to clash.
The police image maker explained that the security operatives were performing legitimate duties when they were attacked in Ilobu.
The release partly read, “The Osun State Police Command has noted with serious concern a viral video circulating on social media where police officers were attacked by hoodlums from Ilobu Community.
“The Command strongly condemned the act, describing it as unlawful and a direct attack on constituted authority. The incident occurred when a team of police officers was dispatched based on information that the peace of Erin-Osun/Ilobu communities was about to be compromised by certain disgruntled elements over a disputed boundary land.
“The officers arrived at the scene and dispersed the hoodlums. Subsequently, some youths of Ilobu community went rogue and manhandled the police officers. One of the officers was dragged to Olobu Palace, where he was further subjected to inhumane treatment.”
