2027: Ife Central Accord members warn party against imposition of HoA candidate

Some members of the Accord Party in Ife Central have urged the party leadership not to impose candidate through consensus/automatic tickets in the forthcoming primaries.

osun.life reports that Hon. Abiola Awoyeye currently represents the constituency at the Osun State House of Assembly.

The members in a letter sent to the chairman of Accord Party in Osun and signed by chairmen, youth leaders and women leaders in Ilare, Iremo and Akarabata wards, dated March 24, said the party give room for members to choose the person who will represent them.

The letter said leadership must reflect
inclusiveness, fairness, accountability, and responsiveness to the needs and aspirations of the people, especially women and young people, who form a significant part of our population.

“The new electoral law mandates direct primaries and we urge you to adhere to this directive.
This decision was not made lightly. It follows careful consultation, reflection, and engagement with our members and the wider community.

“As critical stakeholders within our constituency, we believe leadership must reflect inclusiveness, fairness, accountability, and responsiveness to the needs and aspirations of the people, especially women and young people, who form a significant part of our population,” the letter partly read.

The party members argued that equal opportunity must be given to all qualified aspirants and ensure that the democratic process is respected at every level.

“Our collective position is driven by the desire to build and sustain an egalitarian political environment, one that guarantees equal opportunity for all qualified
aspirants and ensures that the democratic process is respected at every level.

“We strongly believe that the future of Ife Central Constituency must be
determined through transparent, credible, and competitive processes rather than predetermined outcomes.

“In this regard, we respectfully implore the leaders and party authorities within Ife Central Constituency to uphold the principles of internal democracy by
allowing a free, fair, and transparent primary election among all contestants and aspirants. Such a process will not only restore confidence among party members and constituents but also strengthen unity, legitimacy, and collective progress,” the letter added.
