Congress: We’ll build consensus around leadership – APC National Secretary

By Tunde Olamilekan

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Ajibola Basiru, has disclosed that the party would adopt a consensus approach across all the states at its forthcoming Congress.

Basiru stated this on Wednesday, while briefing some journalists at his office in Abuja.

The APC scribe said the leadership of the party are already engaging stakeholders in all the states to ensure a smooth Congress.

He added that the party is not facing any crisis, affirming that every APC sitting governors are leaders of the party in their state.

He said, “What we are trying to do is to build consensus across all states. All the states where there are possible issues, the national leadership are meeting with them one by one and the congress is going to be on the 18th. So we still have time to resolve whatever issues arise.

“We don’t escalate unnecessary crisis. We had a meeting with the national assembly members from Benue state and the national chairman is going to meet with the governor.

“So there is no crisis anywhere. Also, in Bauchi, the national chairman met with them and they already had some understanding of how they wanted to go about the consensus. The same thing with Kano and other places.

“So as far as we are concerned, there is no crisis. The leaders of the party except in peculiar situations, are the governor. Even where there are governors, the national chairman is intervening to ensure that every stakeholder is carried along.”
