Police have paraded one Iman Olalekan for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl in Osun State, southwest Nigeria.
The suspect, who was exhibited at the Police Headquarters in Osogbo, is a 24-year-old member of the Peace Corps of Nigeria, a voluntary organisation that has been involved in enforcement of discipline in various schools.
The victim, an SS 1 student of St. Charles Grammar School in Ilesa, claimed she was forcefully defiled by the suspect who she said vowed to kill her if she tries to report the act to anyone.
The girl subsequently summoned courage to relay her ordeal to her mother who reported the matter to the Police.
Olalekan, however, maintained that everything was done with the consent of the girl.
Meanwhile, authorities of the school had told Channels Television during a visit that they were not aware of the incident.
Briefing reporters after the exhibition, the spokesperson for the command, Folasade Odoro, said investigation has been completed on the case with scientific evidence that the crime was committed.
In his reaction, Commandant of the corps in Osun State, Ayinde Kayode, condemned the act and described it as unfortunate.
He said efforts were underway to rid the corps of undisciplined volunteers, pledging to cooperate with the Police on the case.
