Owa Obokun dissociates self from letter soliciting funds competition, and award

The palace of Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesaland has dissociated itself from a letter purportedly written by one Olayinka Ogunkeye soliciting funds from members of the public under the guise of organising an Owa Obokun Athletic Competition and Award.

A statement by the Palace Chief of Staff, Barrister Lady Dupe Ajayi-Gbadebo, a copy posted on Facebook by one of the monarch’s aides, indicated that Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, had not at any time authorised the competition, nor did he give his consent to any funds solicitation from the public.

The statement noted that the Palace has well-structured committees responsible for various tasks including sports, culture and youth development.

Ajayi-Gbadebo, advised the general public to verify any information concerning the palace through the Palace Secretariat to avoid falling “victim to unscrupulous elements who want to use the institution of the palace.”
