Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Osun State on Wednesday, joined the nationwide protest against insecurity in the country.
The workers who converged under the Olaiya bridge in Osogbo, were joined by civil society organisations and residents.
The peaceful protest had the presence of security personnel who were on ground to ensure there was no breakdown of law and order.
Speaking with journalists, the chairman of Osun Civil Society Coalition, Dr Waheed Lawal, said the insecurity in the country needs to be addressed urgently.
Dr Lawal also frowned at the continued closure of the operation base of Osun Amotekun.
He said, “We are protesting against insecurity. The meeting of Mr President with the labour leaders cannot avert that one because their meeting cannot solve the bandits from kidnapping our people.
“Nigerians deserved the best. Security of lives and property is a constitutional matter. It is our law that says the government must provide security for the lives and property of the citizens. If you can’t secure the people, how are you going to provide welfare for them?
“We just have to tell the president that enough is enough. The closure of the operational office for Amotekun in Osun State is uncalled for. If there is any bad egg within Amotekun, remove them or prosecute anyone who commits an offence.
“But closing that office is not the solution to that problem. Today, we cannot sleep with our eyes closed in Osun. That is not how it was before. Osun is one of the most secure states in Nigeria, and we don’t want unnecessary incursion into our state.”
