The Executive Director, World Institute for Peace, Lamina Kamiludeen, has urged the Osun State Police Command to investigate the activities of a local security group called ‘Ikire Vigilante Taskforce’.
Kamiludeen in a statement on his Facebook page, queried why the security group was using a uniform which is currently being used by the Osun Amotekun.
According to the activist, the uniform may cause confusion, urging the police and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps to investigate if the privately owned security outfit was legally registered.
He said, “The Nigeria Police Force should take swift action regarding the uniform confusion that the Ikire Vigilante Taskforce may cause.
“Both the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps need to thoroughly investigate this issue.
“Security agencies should investigate whether the Ikire Vigilante Group, a privately owned security outfit, is legally registered.
“If it is registered, the authorities should instruct the owners to adopt a new uniform colour that is completely different from that of the Amotekun Corps, in order to prevent unnecessary confusion that could lead to security breaches. If the group is not registered, appropriate sanctions should be imposed on the owners”
