The lawmaker representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore, and Ejigbo Federal Constituency, Bamidele Salam, has suggested that the Peoples Democratic Party might not be facing the trouble it is currently facing if past presidents under the party were actively involved in party activities after leaving office.
Salam said the inactivity of former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan allowed ‘power drunkards’ to attempt to steal the party and lord it over everyone.
According to him, former Presidents in other countries remain active members of their political parties even after leaving office.
He, however, said past presidents in Nigeria tear their party membership cards and choose the role of ‘nonon-partisan’athers of the nation.
“In other democracies around the world, former Presidents remain active members of their political parties, serving both as the conscience and the pillar of the parties.
“In Nigeria, immediately Presidents finish their tenure, they tear their party membership cards and choose the nebulous role of ‘non partisan’ fathers of the Nation.
“So when wine and power drunkards attempt to seize the party and lord it over everyone, there is no one big enough to stand up to their shenanigans.
“Imagine having an Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan still actively involved in the PDP,” Salam wrote in a Facebook post.
