A former Osun State House of Assembly lawmaker, Hon. Uzamot Adebayo, has said the budget proposal presented by Governor Ademola Adeleke yesterday to the state House of Assembly ‘will be the last one’ before he exits office.
Adebayo, who represented Iwo State Constituency during the 7th Assembly, said Adeleke would be defeated in the August 08, 2026, election by any candidate presented by the APC.
In a statement on Thursday, the APC chieftain who was the Chairman, House Services Committee, congratulated Osun people, noting that their years of waiting for true governance will soon be over.
It would be recalled that Governor Adeleke, on Wednesday, presented the 2026 budget proposal before the State House of Assembly.
The budget proposal, which is to the tune of N705.794 billion, according to the governor, was prepared on the projection of the 2026 – 2028 Medium–Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) as required by the Osun State Fiscal Responsibility Law 2012.
Adeleke, while presenting the budget estimate christened “Budget of Economic Transformation”, said the budget estimate is made of recurrent expenditure of Three Hundred and Seventeen Billion, Four Hundred and Fourteen Million, Three Hundred and Fifty-Three Thousand, Three Hundred and Fifty Naira (₦317,414,353,350.00), which is 45% of the total budget.
But Adebayo, in the statement, knocked the governor, adding that the 2025 budget performance was nothing to write home about.
It would be recalled that the Assembly approved ₦427 billion as the 2025 budget.
The former lawmaker questioned how the state government intends to fund the proposed ₦705 billion with its meager Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
He also said the 2025 budget performance has shown that the Adeleke administration is not serious about governance, adding that key sectors were neglected.
“While Mr Governor spends a lot of money on foreign trips and entertainment, key sectors like agriculture, health, youth affairs, and science and technology, were given little to no attention.
“Proposing another big budget does not mean things will change under this administration. However, I am certain this will be his last budget as the APC will be taking over come August 08, 2026.
“I am happy for the Osun people as they will be the major beneficiary of this, being the non-performing governor’s last budget presentation. Good governance will return to Osun State next year, and I know Osun people cannot wait to see APC back in Bola Ige’s house,” Adebayo noted.
