The lawmaker representing Osun East, Senator Francis Fadahunsi, has called for the creation of additional polling units, wards, and local governments.
Fadahunsi who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Industries, stated this during a retreat to review the proposed draft Electoral Bill 2025.
According to a statement signed by the Senator’s Head of Media and Public enlightenment, Omole Oluwasegun, the retreat was jointly organized by the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Electoral Matters, in collaboration with the Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) and supported by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
The retreat had in attendance, lawmakers, officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), civil society organizations, and governance experts.
The statement noted that Senator Fadahunsi, among the speakers, underscored the importance of good governance and stressed that the retreat’s discussions and resolutions would shape future policies and legislative reforms to strengthen Nigeria’s electoral process.
It added that the Ijesa-born lawmaker, called for the creation of additional polling units, wards, and local governments, highlighting Ijebu-Jesa Ward 3 as a prime example needing such development.
