The Osun State Government has appointed his nephew, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido as the Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund.
The Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Prince Kola Adewusi, made this known during a courtesy visit by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Osun State chapter, to his office in Osogbo.
He noted that the appointment of the Afrobeats singer was part of sweeping reforms to rejuvenate the state’s sports sector.
Adewusi said the move was aimed at ensuring sustainable financing for sports development, improving athlete welfare, and upgrading sports infrastructure across the state.
According to him, the creation of the Sports Trust Fund and a corresponding Sports Commission represents a strategic shift from ad-hoc interventions to a structured, long-term development framework.
“We are moving from handouts to a system that guarantees accountability, sustainability, and results,” he said.
“This is more than just about sports; it’s about youth development, empowerment, and rebranding Osun State on the global stage,” he added.
The Trust Fund will focus on the rehabilitation of stadiums and training facilities, support for grassroots sports, and welfare programs for athletes.
