The World Health Organisation has advised residents of Osun State to stop consuming bush meat to prevent mpox infection.
An official of W.H.O, Mr Basheer Fatoki made the plea in Osogbo on Friday during a media roundtable discussion on the prevention of mpox in Osun.
The expert also urged residents to report suspected cases of mpox to the appropriate quarters to prevent spreading to other people.
Fatoki said bush meat can harbour viruses and other pathogens that pose significant health risks, warning people against it.
He noted that mpox can be contacted directly from infected animals or animals products or indirectly with an infected person or surface.
Fatoki emphasised the need for more sensitisation of residents on the need to stop eating bushmeat.
