Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Friday, donated 21 brand-new shuttle buses to Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Abiodun Olarewaju, noted that the gesture was part of a total pledge of 50 buses from the First Lady.
According to the statement, Mrs Tinubu had in October 2024, during a visit to the institution to attend the 50th birthday anniversary celebration of Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, pledge to donate shuttle buses.
“The arrival of the initial tranche of white-coloured buses on October 10, 2025, transformed pledge into reality, drawing throngs of excited onlookers as the vehicles gleamed under the Ife sun.
“Leading the reception was the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, who, alongside key members of the University management, conducted a ceremonial test drive around the campus. The sight of the white, sleek, modern buses navigating the tree-lined avenues evoked cheers from students perched on balconies and staff pausing in their daily routines, symbolizing a new era for OAU’s mobility infrastructure,” the statement noted.
Speaking, Professor Bamire expressed profound gratitude, describing the donation as “a luminous act of benevolence that illuminates the path toward institutional excellence.”
He lauded the First Lady’s foresight, noting, “This is not merely a gift of vehicles; it is a profound investment in the future of our scholars and the soul of our University. As an alumnus herself, the First Lady understands the heartbeat of OAU – the aspirations, the challenges, and the unyielding pursuit of greatness.”
