The All Progressives Congress in Osun State has slammed the state chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, describing him as a “monumental misfit” for the leadership of the labour union in the state.
The APC accused Arapasopo of turning himself into the political campaign chief of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
A statement by Osun APC Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, said Arapasopo had featured on a radio programme in Osogbo earlier on Friday, adding that the labour leader
“campaigned” for the second term ambition of Governor Adeleke during the programme.
“To the consternation of the right-thinking members of the society, the obviously compromised state NLC chairman, who was calling the state APC unprintable names throughout the duration of the programme, further enjoined the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) to continue with the ongoing seven-month-old strike.
“It is obvious that the state NLC under the leadership of Arapasopo has confirmed the public suspicion that the supposed organized labour union has turned itself into an arm of the PDP in the state,” the statement noted.
The APC queried why Arapasopo would jettison labour-related issues that are beneficial to the welfare of his members and prioritize the defence of the government of the day.
“The attraction for Arapasopo to have offered to compromise his integrity, if at all he has any, for frivolous political consideration is an attestation to the fact that the political scoundrel is a monumental misfit for the leadership of the labour union in Osun State.
“One wonders if Arapasopo has forgotten that his leadership of the labour union is not eternal, unaware that history would be unkind to him at the end of his tenure.
“We as a party are cautioning Arapasopo to desist from hiding under the statutory refuge of the labour leadership to turn himself into the megaphone of Governor Adeleke for whatever might have been the personal irresistible attraction,” the statement added.
