Olubadan backs Ooni, endorses Ilaji Resort CEO as Okanlomo Oodua

By Tunde Olamilekan

Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, on Sunday, backed the conferment of the ‘Okanlomo Oodua’ title on the Chief Executive Officer of Ilaji Resort, Dotun Sanusi.

It would be recalled that controversies trailed the conferment of the title on the business tycoon by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi.

After the conferment, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owa, issued a statement, asking the Ooni to revoke the chieftaincy title within 48 hours.

However, the Olubadan, while hosting the Ooni, who visited him at his Bodija private residence in Ibadan, the state capital, after endorsing Sanusi, also promised to attend his conferment ceremony on December 4.

Speaking further during the visit, Oba Ladoja said the Ooni had expressed support for him to ascend the Olubadan throne as far back as four years ago, noting that while the timing then was not right, divine destiny had now prevailed.

“He wanted me to become Olubadan four years ago, but I told him then that it is only God who places one on the throne at the right time. Today, I am grateful to God and also to Kabiyesi Ooni for standing by me in my most trying times.”

Oba Ladoja would be installed as the 44th Olubadan on Friday, September 26, 2025, following the demise of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who joined his  ancestors on Monday, July 7, 2025.
