Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has ordered the
State Emergency Management Agency to conduct an assessment of the damage inflicted on residents of Iwo following a heavy downpour on Friday.
It would be recalled that a torrential downpour, which lasted hours, caused havoc in some areas in Iwo, with residents still counting their losses.
Commenting on the situation on Facebook, the state Commissioner for Water Resources, Olufemi Oroniyi, said Adeleke further ordered the Ministry of Environment to expand rivers across the state to bring the water level down and forestall such occurrences.
He wrote, “The Governor, Asiwaju Ademola Adeleke was deeply concerned about the unfortunate incident where properties worth millions of Naira were destroyed.
“Consequently the Governor has ordered the Ministry of Environment to further expand our Rivers to bring the water level down and forestall such occurrences.
“Also he mandated the Osun State Emergency Management Agency to visit Iwo and assess the extent of damage and recommend possible intervention from the government.”
