A former lawmaker representing Osun West in the Senate, Mudashiru Husain, on Tuesday, officially joined the state gubernatorial race under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
This was as he urged members of the party to support his aspiration to become the governor of the state.
The former lawmaker made the appeal after a meeting with members of the State Working Committee and other stakeholders at the party’s state secretariat in Osogbo.
The governorship election in Osun is scheduled for Saturday, August 8, 2026.
Addressing scores of his supporters who had gathered at the APC state secretariat to witness the event, the former lawmaker who also represented the Oshodi/Isolo Federal Constituency in Lagos in the House of Representatives, Abuja, between 1999 and 2007, said he possessed relevant experience to govern Osun.
He said, “In terms of experience, I swear to the Almighty God, I have what it takes to govern this state.
“As a member of the House of Representatives in Lagos State for eight years and a member of the Senate for four years, and having served as a Federal Commissioner and acting Secretary to the State Government in Osun State, what else do you want as governor? If it’s experience, I have it.
“APC is rooted in the federation and in Osun, so there’s nothing to fear. We are taking over the government of Osun State in 2026. I am confident that I am going to govern this state,” Hussein said.
He, however, expressed readiness to support whoever among the twelve aspirants is eventually picked as the candidate of the party, if he is not chosen.
He further said, “All of us, the twelve aspirants, are qualified. We have the capacity to deliver. Whoever the party hierarchy chooses, we are bound by the Constitution and rules of the party to support them.”
