The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru has disclosed that the party will do everything to win the August 08, 2026 gubernatorial election in Osun State.
Basiru noted that the APC is prepared to win the election, adding that the incumbent Governor, Ademola Adeleke’s support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu will not save him from defeat at the poll.
The APC National Secretary, who is one of the governorship aspirants under the APC stated this on Friday while appearing on TVC’s Beyond the Headlines show.
The former Osun Central lawmaker said, “We’ve heard Governor Adeleke saying he is going to support the president in 2027. But there is going to be an election before then, and our responsibility, particularly my responsibility, is to ensure the victory of the APC in 2026, irrespective of whatever anybody thinks in terms of supporting the president in 2027.
“Our party and supporters are waxing stronger and we are poised to chase the ‘dancing personality’ from the government house in 2026. With the mobilisation effort that our party is doing, definitely the party is going to coast clear to victory in 2026.”
Speaking on his own ambition, Basiru said the leadership of the party will determine whether or not he formally throws his hat in the ring for the gubernatorial contest.
“As for my own ambition, I’ve said it on several occasions, I am a product of leadership that believes in consensus and assigning responsibilities to those of us in the field working for the party.
“For now, I am the National Secretary of the APC and we are presently working on consolidating the hold of our party in many states and stabilising the party ahead of the 2027 election.
“Whether or not I will put my hat in the ring will be determined based on consensus with the leadership and what kind of assignment and responsibilities the party wants to give me ahead of the 2026 and 2027 elections,” the APC national scribe added.
