In less than a year, Osun NURTW chief dumps PDP, rejoins APC

By Tunde Olamilekan

Eleven months after dumping the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the former chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Osun State, Lekan Salami has rejoined his former party.

It would be recalled that Salami in October 2024, dumped the APC for the ruling PDP, basing his decision on the achievements and growth experienced in Osun under the leadership of Governor Nurudeen Adeleke.

Salami who was received then by the Speaker of the Osun House of Assembly, Hon. Adewale Egbedun, highlighted significant improvements in infrastructure, education, and healthcare as key factors influencing his decision to join the PDP.

Egbedun while responding, expressed his enthusiasm for the new strength and experience that Salami and his followers will bring to the PDP, saying, “I am thrilled to welcome you into our fold. “Your wealth of experience and dedication to the people of Osun will undoubtedly enhance our efforts in promoting development and good governance.”

But Salami, who is also the Loro of Ijesaland, was recently seen in the company of a chieftain of the APC, Remi Omowaiye, donning a cap with the insignia of a governorship aspirant under the APC, Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO).

Efforts to get clarification on the matter proved abortive as calls put across to the former Osun NURTW chairman were not connecting at the time of filing this report.

However, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Ilesa East Local Government, Mr Fowowe Akinola, said Salami is back to the party.

Akinola while speaking with osun.life, stated that the picture showed that the former Osun NURTW chairman is back in APC folds.

The APC chairman said although he has not spoken to Salami directly, “the message I got is that he is back to the APC.

“Chief Salami did not even leave the party in the first instance. What he said was that some people in the party pissed him off and that’s why he stepped back.”But with the picture circulating online, Salami is back fully with us.”
