The embattled Student Union President of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Mr Muhammed Surajudeen, also known as ‘Imole’, has said that the purported misappropriation claims preferred against him by the Student Representative Council, was far from truth.
In his reaction to the impeachment albatross, which is now viral, Imole, said the embezzlement scandal he was brought under came as a surprise to him, stating that all the monies he had withdrawn from the union’s account was never used for his own enrichment.
He said the money withdrawn, which was now causing ripples in the campus was used in settling a bad debt his administration incurred.
According to him, “there is no doubt in the fact that a transaction was truly made but in good faith and procedural as contained in the constitution, the money which was meant to settle some of the Union’s debt especially those spent on the printing and reprinting of documents.”
He added that, ” The situation went bad that the person in charge went to several lengths to get his money from the Union which had gone a long way in tarnishing the image of the Imole led SUG.
“In relation to this, I sent a requisition letter to the Student Representative Council which is the legislative arm to pave way for the withdrawal of the money constitutionally on 26th of July, 2016. After this letter, I adopted countless informal means of communication to get the sum approved which yielded no result, even when the sign of authority is not on ground.
“To safe the Union from staying too long in its own debt that can tarnish its image, I ordered those who are signatories to the Union account to make the withdrawal and do the needful immediately and objectively on 1st of April, 2016.”
