Ooni urges alumni to support The Polytechnic Ibadan

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has called on alumni of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, to rally support for their alma mater in order to strengthen its standing among Nigeria’s foremost institutions.

The monarch, who is also an alumnus of the institution, made the appeal when members of the Governing Council of the Polytechnic paid him a courtesy visit at his palace.

Oba Ogunwusi described the school as one that has produced trailblazers across various professions, stressing that sustained alumni support would enable it to compete more favourably with its contemporaries.

“We will pick it one after the other and I will use the audience that I have to support the institution,” the Ooni had said.

He pledged to work with the management of the polytechnic to mobilise influential figures and foster partnerships that would advance the development of the institution.

The Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof Olarenwaju Nasser, who led the delegation, praised the Ooni for remaining a patriotic alumnus of the school.

“Your leadership in Yorubaland has brought unity and cultural progress. Your enduring commitment to the polytechnic inspires us to pursue our mission with renewed zeal and vigour. Your involvement would inspire countless young minds and strengthen our resolve to nurture the leaders of tomorrow,” he said.

The council members also toured the palace, with the highlight of the visit being the presentation of gifts to the monarch.
