Tragedy struck the Oba-Ile community in Olorunda Local Government Area of Osun State when a man, suspected to be under the influence of hard drugs, reportedly went on a violent rampage and hacked three children to death.
The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Sodiq Eniola, was said to have been lynched by an enraged mob before police officers could rescue him.
The shocking incident occurred around 8:05 p.m. at Ese Ola Compound, where the suspect stormed the residence of one Mr. Ganiyu Bamidele, armed with a machete, and launched a brutal attack.
According to eyewitnesses, Eniola, known in the area as a troubled individual with a history of suspected drug use and mental health issues, walked into a shop operated by Mrs. Bamidele within the compound, where the couple’s three children were sleeping.
Without uttering a word, he allegedly began hacking the minors to death. Their names and ages had not been officially disclosed at the time of this report.
Mr. Bamidele, who tearfully recounted the horrific incident, said: “He didn’t speak to anyone. He just walked into the shop where my children were lying down and started cutting them with a machete. Before we could reach them, it was too late.”
The gruesome killings sparked outrage in the community. As news spread, a large crowd gathered and descended on the suspect, beating him mercilessly before officers from the Oba-Ile Police Division arrived.
Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect died from injuries sustained during the mob attack while being rushed to the hospital. He added that investigations have been launched to uncover the motive behind the killings.
