Osun House of Assembly insists on joint ownership of LAUTECH

Osun State House of Assembly has insisted that the joint ownership of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso must be retained in line with the judgement of the Supreme Court on the matter.

Addressing a press conference on the ownership crisis bedevilling the institution, the Chairman of House Committee on Education, Honorable Folorunso Bamisayemi expressed disappointment on the plot by Oyo State to take over the university in defiance to the spirit of oneness with which the joint ownership was conceived 26 years ago when the institution was established.

He lamented that the recent moves by people of Ogbomoso to force Oyo State government to take over the institution and insisted that Osun State was not ready to cede the ownership of the institution.

His words “LAUTECH was established in 1990 by the then Government of the Old Oyo State. Shortly after the University was established, Osun was carved out of old Oyo State in 1991. The two states agreed to jointly own the University to save it from premature death”.

He explained that the decision to jointly own the university was also in line with the spirit of oneness and integration of Yoruba nation.
He maintained that the university remains a joint property of both Oyo State and Osun State.

He expressed regret on the inability of Osun State government to pay its own share of subventions over the last couple of months due to economic crisis that the state has been encountering which also affected the funding of Osun State University in Osogbo.

“We will like to re-assure our people in Oyo State and Ogbomoso area in particular that Osun is committed to its obligations to LAUTECH and the State Governor is working tirelessly to ensure that we redeem our pledge to pay part of our outstanding subvention as soon as our financial situation can bear it”.
