COVID-19: Lawmaker refutes report of palliative rejection by constituents

By Joseph Akanbi

The member representing Irepodun/Olorunda/Orolu/Osogbo federal constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon. Olubukola Oyewo, has refuted reports that his constituents rejected his coronavirus palliative package, describing such reports as misleading.

Some of the reports had said Party leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress in Orolu local government area of Osun State on Sunday rejected the COVID-19 palliative package given to them by the lawmaker.

However in a telephone conversation with our correspondent, Hon. Oyewo described such reports as misleading and untrue.

He said “The palliative package was shared at the discretion of the constituted committee. They did it without using the political approach, by going directly into neighborhood to give the package to those who are vulnerable.”

“I have seen some of the reports, they are tissue of lies, it also has political undertone.”

“At the Federal level, all members of the House of Representatives have already committed 100% of our two-months salary to support the Government.”

“At the State level, our caucus in Osun have donated N5m to support the Government in providing palliatives for our people. Individually, I’ve also reached out to as many as I can as I’m fully aware of the deperate times we’re in.”

The lawmaker however appealed to his constituents to bear with the Government for the remainder of the lockdown period and endeavour to stay at home as it is the only way to prevent the spread of the deadly coronavirus.
