Some unknown armed men, have attacked a man, simply identified as Rotimi Daniels, around Yaba in Mainland area of Lagos State, Nigeria, in the glare of the public.
According to eyewitness accounts, Daniels who was saved by the whiskers, was allegedly waylaid and assaulted by three unknown armed men at about 4.30pm on Tuesday (29/5/18)
It was gathered that but for the quick intervention of passersby before the eventual arrival of the Police, Rotimi would have been maimed or killed.
Passersby were said to have braced the odds by pelting the man’s assailants with stones and cudgels, a development said to have made them to flee the scene of the attack even before the Police arrived.
Speaking to this effect with our Correspondent from his hospital bed, the victim, stressed ; “I was on my way to a meeting in Lagos on Tuesday, 29th May, 2018, when three unknown armed men who apparently had been monitoring my movement, suddenly surfaced from nowhere around Yaba in Mainland area of Lagos, and attacked me. That untoward incident would have marked the end of my life but for the timely intervention of the people around”

On the possible cause of the ugly incident, the victim blamed it on his refusal to do the biddings of his father, Chief Joel Kolawole Daniels, whom he claimed, was pestering him to join the Ogboni Confraternity,a secret cult
“My father, Chief Joel Kolawole Daniels, is the current Supreme Head of the Ogboni Confraternity in Ifelodun Local Government area of Kwara State; Nigeria, where he currently Iives. Having converted to Christianity in 2001 with my allegiance firmly with Jesus Christ, I’m forbidden from any form of idolatry. I stood my ground” he maintained
“My father was definitely not happy with my decision to do away with the practice. The development reached a feverish point in January, 2017, when my father concluded arrangements to forcefully induct me into the society and install me as the Supreme Head in waiting” Rotimi lamented as he writhed in pains of the attack he suffered.
According to the recuperating Rotimi, he refused to bow to pressures from different quarters in this regard, noting, ” I started getting death threats through persistent calls from the Ogboni cult members in the preceding months. I reported the matter to the Police. The Police declined, claiming they could not intervene in issues involving affairs of a traditional society or what appears to be family misunderstanding”
As a result of the attack, the man who appeared visibly shaken and emotionally destabilised, said threats to his life and that of his family, had become unbearable, asserting,”The system appears helpless in providing the needed security as reflected in the daylight attack done against my person”
Meanwhile, as of the time of filing this report, efforts to get the Police reaction to the incident, proved abortive as calls made by our Correspondent, were not attended to.
