In its bid to assist in the fight against the highly contagious new strain Corona virus dubbed Covid-19, the Management of Lautech Teaching Hospital, Osogbo has introduced some measures to guide the hospital community and the general public on the pandemic.
This was contained in a press release issued by Ayodele Adeyemo, the Public Relations Officer of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Osogbo
The Management has constituted an Infection Control Committee charged with monitoring of the situation in the hospital. In line with this, the hospital has put in place some essential facilities and regulations to curtail the infiltration and transmission of COVID-19.
Henceforth visitors to patients in the hospital are to be strictly controlled while social gatherings in the halls are suspended with immediate effect. In order to minimise influx of crowd into the hospital, only one patient relation will be allowed to run errands/assist any patient in the ward while various clinics and service delivery points would discourage non urgent cases presenting for medical attention. For the convenience of patients and to reduce waiting hours, clinics now will run on basis of timed appointments and on no account should there be more than 30 patients at any clinic or service delivery area per time. Performance of non-threatened elective surgeries would be reduced to the barest minimum or postponed as the case may be until the corona pandemic abates.
A Holding Bay is now opened in the hospital for onward transfer of suspected cases of Covid-19 to Osun State Isolation Centre. This is in an arrangement with Osun state Ministry of Health.
As a way of assuring the safety of staff and patients, the management has secured some Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) from the government of State of Osun while more will be procured for all categories of health workers. Enough disposable risk preventive materials such as face masks, sanitizers, elbow length gloves have been distributed to wards, clinics and offices in the hospital. The management, therefore urge the staff of the hospital to adhere strictly to WHO prescribed health practice ethics as a way of curtailing the pandemic.
The public is advised not to indulge in self medications and self denial but see a doctor promptly if the need arises
For suspected cases of COVID – 19, the general public is advised to call the following mobile lines: 08030850030, 08033493110, 08164006008, 08033908772 & 08056456250.
