In order to check the growing trend of unregulated mining activities in the state, the state government of Osun has begin moves to put a stop to the uncivilised manners in which miners in the state operates.
This bold step by the state government was disclosed during the week by the Governor of the State, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola while playing host to the traditional rulers of Ayedaade Local Government area of the state led by the Olufi of Gbongan, Oba Dr. Adetoyese Oyeniyi Odugbemi 1 who were on a courtesy call on the Governor.
Oyetola told the Monarchs that he has written to the Inspector General of Police, Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Staff to the President, Federal Ministry of Mining and that of Environment to intimate them of the plan of his administration to regulate mining activities in a way that will enhance security of lives and equally boost the economic potential of the state, maintaining that legal miners will be registered with a view to determining the authentic miners, thereby separating the wheat from the chaff.
He appreciated the monarchs for standing by him all through the trying time, through their prayers which he maintained culminated in his victory, stated that through the pragmatic steps taken by his administration, Osun has remained to be the safest convincingly in the Southwest, and one of the most peaceful nationwide.
The media has been away with reports of sharp practices being perpetrated by unlicenced miners in the state especially in Ijesha axis where mining is being done in commercial quantity.
Besides, the influx of foreigners into that part of the state as a result of banning of mining activities in Zamfara State by the federal government has become a major source of worry for stakeholders thereby making state government to be proactive against any unforeseen circumstances.
