As Muslims worldwide celebrate the Eid El Kabir festival, a member of the House of Representatives, Bamidele Salam has noted that the annual festival proves that there is more to gain as a country if Nigerians focus more on our common identities rather than the minor differences.
Salam who represents Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal constituency of Osun State in the National Assembly stated this in a goodwill message on the occasion of the Islamic festival holding tomorrow.
He said the historical background to the celebration of the Id El Kabir festival gives hope to a multicultural and multi religious society like Nigeria that the Almighty Allah delights in love, patience, harmony and mutual respect.
He said those in position of responsibility also have lessons to learn especially in the area of keeping promises and looking after the welfare of the less privileged in the society while formulating programmes and policies.
The lawmaker said the annual pilgrimage to the holy land of Mecca which happens in the period of Id El Kabir is another spiritual exercise which promotes racial and cultural harmony as well as seamless relationship between peoples of different social strata and economic background.
While congratulating Islamic adherents on the celebration of the festival, Hon Salam said the festival opens an opportunity for citizens to reach out to one another in prayers and sharing of gifts regardless of differences in faith and culture.
He prayed that Allah will restore peace to all troubled parts of Nigeria and grant wisdom to all political leaders to emulate the just, humane and faithful virtues of the holy Prophet Ibrahim whose conduct led to the annual id el Kabir celebration.
