Osun Anglican Bishop charges Buhari on killings, Insecurity

The Diocese of Ijesa North, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has expressed its concern over the spate of killings in different parts of the country.

At its 2nd session of the Third Synod with the theme “Trust and Obey” held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Esa-Oke, Osun State, Bishop of Ijesa North Diocese, Rt Rev. Isaac Oluyamo urged President Muhammadu Buhari to put in extra efforts to curb the current security challenges in the country.

Challenging the delegates from all Archdeaconries in the Diocese and other invited ministers of God as well as eminent guests, the cleric pleaded with President Buhari to be a leader of all Nigerians without religious, ethnic or racial sentiments.

Rev Oluyamo equally reminded President Buhari of the fact that Nigerians have not forgotten the remaining Chibok girls and Leah Sharibu who are still held in captivity by Boko Haram insurgents.

The cleric emphasised that their freedom from captivity should be a major concern to the Presidency.

However, he hailed the Federal Government for showing concern for Nigerian workers by carrying out upward review of the minimum wage.

But Oluyamo stressed the need for the government to strive hard in reviving the country’s economy so as to make the minimum wage meaningful.

On the power sector, the cleric said: “We note with cautious optimism the various power projects going on in various parts of the nation. It is our belief that if the projects are well executed with sincerity of purpose, they would solve power problem in the country.

The Synod appealed to government to return schools to their original owners (missionaries) to enable them re-assert their role in the educational development.

He noted that the refusal to hand over the missions’ schools to their owners has led to the decline in education standards.

The cleric stressed the need to stop playing politics with the future of Nigerian child and the country.

Oluyamo urged President Buhari to justify the confidence reposed in him by Nigerians who re-elected him for second term. He also called for urgent fixing of all roads that are in bad shape.
