Those involved in assault of personnel will face full weight of law – Osun Police

The Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mr Ibrahim Gotan, has vowed that those involved in the assault of three police personnel during a renewed boundary dispute between Ilobu and Erin-Osun communities would be made to face the full weight of the law.

It would be recalled that no fewer than two community chiefs, one head of hunters’ association and 15 residents have been arrested over violence linked to a long-standing boundary and land ownership dispute between Ilobu and Erin-Osun communities, which allegedly led to attacks on the officers.

In a video which circulated on social media, a man in a police uniform was seen allegedly being assaulted and forced to kneel inside what appeared to be a gathering.

Addressing journalists after the suspects were paraded at the command headquarters, Osogbo, Gotan said the command would not tolerate any form of lawlessness or coordinated attack against its personnel.

The Commissioner also said nineteen suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, adding that others in hiding would be fished out.

“Let it be unequivocally clear that, any person or group involved in the attack no matter the status of such people or how highly placed they are, will be made to face the full weight of the law.

“The Command will not tolerate any form of lawlessness/ coordinated attack against its personnel. Decisive operation measure has been activated to track and arrest other suspects involved in the act.”

Gotan warned that any attempt by individuals or groups to shield or harbour the suspects will attract severe legal consequences.

“I am assuring the good people of Osun State that, all those involved in the criminal act will face the full weight of the law to serve as a deterrent to others,” Gotan added.
