There was tension in Ilesa on Monday as political hoodlums reportedly attacked the campaign team of a House of Representatives aspirant for Ijesa South Federal Constituency under the Accord, Prince Oluwaseun Ojo Adeloye-Famoriyo.
It was gathered that vehicles were vandalized with some other valuables carted away by the attackers during the incident.
A statement by the media team of the aspirant said the development represented a disturbing attempt to intimidate and disrupt a peaceful political process.
“While we note growing concerns within the community about rising political tension, we urge all stakeholders to reject violence and uphold the values of peaceful engagement. Politics must never become a cover for criminality or lawlessness,” the statement noted.
The statement further urged the Nigeria Police Force to launch an investigation into the incident and ensure that those involved are brought to book.
“We hereby call on the Nigeria Police Force to immediately launch a thorough investigation into this incident and ensure that all those involved, as well as anyone found to be sponsoring such acts, are brought to justice, regardless of their status,” the statement added.
