Ongoing cutting of trees in Osun forests spells disaster – Ex-Osun Amotekun DG tells Adeleke

The Pioneer Director General of the Amotekun Corps in Osun State, Mr Amitolu Shittu, has lamented the cutting of trees in some of the forest reserves across Osun State.

Shittu said the way the trees were allegedly being cut for personal economic gains portrayed the present government badly, noting that the Osun commonwealth must not be looted dry.

In a post on his Facebook page, the All Progressives Congress chieftain, alleged that some individuals masquerading were perpetrating the act, urging the state government to take appropriate action.

He said the situation, if not stopped, would create a disaster which may resulted to unimaginable losses to the residents of Osun State in not too distant future.

He wrote, “Looting of our commonwealth is a need for Osun State Government to react appropriately. Since September 2025 some unscrupulous individuals masquerading as government agent hiding under approval from State government ministries especially the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture Osun State had approval for them of total deforestation of all our forest reserves and strategically using weekend to cut down trees.

“This illegal and ungodly act perpetrated by some government agents and agencies will only create a disaster which may resulted to unimaginable losses to the residents of Osun State in not too distant forceable future if not stopped.

“The way and manner in which trees are being cut down in some of our forest reserves across Osun State for personal economic gains portrays the present government badly. Osun Commonwealth must not be looted dry.”
