The Pioneer Director General of the Amotekun Corps in Osun State, Mr Amitolu Shittu has called out the state government following the collapse of an advertising billboard around the government house, Oke-Fia on Friday.
Shittu claimed that the billboard which collapsed during heavy rain yesterday was due to the usage of substandard materials for its construction.
Shittu in a post on his Facebook page, accused the current administration of prioritising substandard over quality, adding that people’s lives must not be in exchange for forced-generated revenue.
He noted that the recurring collapse of billboards in Osogbo and other towns in the state points to deeper regulatory and structural failures that demand urgent attention.
He wrote, “Prioritize quality as substandard is becoming style of this present government, people’s lives must not be in exchange for forced generated revenue as the urgent attention of the agency responsible for billboard regulation in Osun State is hereby drawn to the wrecks caused by the two hours heavy downpour that hit Osogbo the state capital in the evening of Friday 6th February, 2026 due to the usage of substandard materials for construction of billboards across Osun State.
“Disturbing reports from other towns across the state further underscore the gravity of the situation.
“The incident at the Technical College, Ilobu Road opposite Police Osogbo Area Command office Osogbo and other areas yesterday evening was particularly frightening.
“It was a near-fatal close call for motorists and pedestrians, as captured in the attached photographs. Such occurrences expose the public to needless danger and must not be treated lightly.
“I sincerely appeal to the management of O-Signage to critically review the quality of materials used for billboard construction before granting approval for erection.
After personally driving “around Osogbo yesterday evening shortly after the incidents I witnessed firsthand the extent of the damage and wrecks caused by the downpour. The recurring collapse of billboards in Osogbo and other towns in the state points to deeper regulatory and structural failures that demand urgent attention.
“Finally, I call on the Osun State Government to urgently review and strengthen oversight of O-Signage’s activities before these avoidable incidents result in loss of lives. Public safety must always take precedence over convenience or political interest.”
