‘Two terrible sad news’, Salam condemns Kwara killings, rejection of electronic transmission of results

The lawmaker representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal Constituency, Hon. Bamidele Salam, has condemned the killing of over 100 people in Kwara State.

The lawmaker also frowned at the Senate rejection of a provision in the Electoral Act amendments, which would make electronic transmission of results mandatory and results generated from the Independent National Electoral Commission portal legally admissible.

Gunmen had on Tuesday attacked Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area, killing scores of residents and burning homes.

Over 100 people were feared killed, sparking widespread outrage and renewed criticism of the Federal Government’s handling of insecurity.

Also, the Senate on Wednesday rejected a proposal to make the electronic transmission of election results compulsory.

Salam, in a post on his Facebook page, wrote, “Two terrible, sad news yesterday. The gruesome killing of hundreds of fellow citizens by terrorists in a community in Kwara state.

“The Senate rejection of a provision in the Electoral Act amendments which would make electronic transmission of results mandatory and results generated from INEC portal legally admissible.”
