Osun APC LG chair clears one-year outstanding payments of traditional rulers

The Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government, elected under the All Progressives Congress in the October 15, 2022 election, Hon. Hassan Okanlawon, has approved and effected the full payment of all outstanding allowances owed to traditional rulers in the council area.

A statement signed by the Media Office of the Chairman on Thursday said traditional rulers and chiefs within Ifelodun Local Government had not received their statutory payments and entitlements for over one year.

The statement noted that Mr Okanlawon authorised the payment of all accumulated arrears in full, adding that the money was disbursed through the joint Traditional Council account.

The APC LG chairman reaffirmed that traditional rulers remain critical partners in grassroots governance, peacebuilding, and community development.

He noted that his administration recognised the historical and moral authority of traditional institutions and will continue to accord them the dignity and support they deserve.

“Our traditional rulers are the custodians of our culture and the closest leaders to the people at the grassroots. It is unacceptable for them to be owed for such a long period. As a government, we are committed to righting inherited wrongs and restoring confidence in public administration,” the Chairman stated.

The Executive Chairman further assured that his administration is putting measures in place to prevent future accumulation of arrears, emphasising that prompt payment of statutory obligations remains a cornerstone of responsible governance under his leadership.
