The Osun State Government, through the Ministry of Rural Development and Community Affairs, on Tuesday, organised a one-day training workshop for unconventional security groups across the state.
The training was part of the government’s efforts to strengthen community-based security and promote peaceful coexistence.
According to a statement by Osun community engagement media team, the training focused on enhancing their capacity in intelligence gathering, conflict resolution, community engagement, and effective collaboration with conventional security agencies.
Participants were also sensitised on professionalism, respect for human rights, and the importance of operating within the ambit of the law.
The Commissioner for Rural Development and Community Affairs, Mr Ganiu Ola-Oluwa, while speaking at the programme, reaffirmed the commitment of the governor Ademola Adeleke-led administration to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
Ola-Oluwa described unconventional security groups as critical partners in maintaining peace and security, especially at the community level.
The commissionerbnoted that the training was designed to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to discharge their duties more effectively and responsibly.
According to him, “Security is a collective responsibility. The government recognises the vital role unconventional security groups play in our communities, and this training is part of our resolve to support, regulate, and professionalise their operations for the overall safety of our people.”
