Osun NSCDC vows to flush out illegal miners in Ijesaland

The Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has said it would not relent in its efforts to combat illegal mining and other related crimes in Ijesaland.

The state commandant, Igbalawole Sotiyo, stated this on Friday during a courtesy visit to the Owa Obokun of Ijesa Land, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup.

According to a statement by the spokesperson for the command, Kehinde Adeleke, the commandant, during the visit, appreciated the people of Ijesa Land for their continued cooperation and support to the Corps, particularly in the area of intelligence sharing which he said has aided the arrest of illegal miners operating within Ilesa and its environs.

He noted that illegal mining remains one of the major security and environmental challenges confronting the area.

“Protection of mining sites and the enforcement of mining regulations remain one of the core mandates of NSCDC, I want to assure you that the Corps will not relent in its efforts to combat illegal mining and other related crimes” Commandant Sotiyo said.

He emphasised that his administration is committed to deepening collaboration with traditional institutions across Osun State as a strategy to curb criminal activities and sustain peace and order.

He further assured the Owa Obokun that the Command would continue to work assiduously to flush out illegal miners from Ijesa Land, while also soliciting the support of members of the public in providing credible and timely information to security agencies.
