The Osun State Police Command has denied allegations of partisan conduct levelled against it by the state Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke.
It would be recalled that Adeleke on Monday urged the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to call the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan to order, over allegations of unlawful arrest and detention of one of his aides, Abiodun Adegoke.
The governor accused the Osun Police Command of losing its sense of professionalism since Gotan resumed office.
But the Command in a statement by the Assistant Police Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Giwa-Alade, said all its actions are based on formal complaints, credible evidence, and due legal process.
Giwa-Alade said the governor’s aide was arrested following a formal petition by the APC gubernatorial candidate.
He said, “On 27th December 2025, Mr Abiodun Adegoke Apesin and his accomplice, Mr Iyiola Monsuru, made a malicious and damaging publication against one of the popular, prominent and illustrious sons of Osun.
“A formal petition was submitted by the victim, and the Command immediately commenced an investigation into the matter. Mr Apesin was invited, but he went into hiding. All efforts to reach him proved abortive.
He added that Adegoke was arrested on 7th January 2026 and was charged at the Federal High Court, Osogbo, on 9th January 2026 alongside Iyiola.
“The Command maintains that these actions are purely criminal investigations and are not politically motivated or targeted at any political party or its affiliates.
“The Osun State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan, remains committed to professionalism, pimpartiality and the protection of human rights,” Giwa-Alade noted.
